Original Quality that Pays Off: Bosch Air-Mass Meters
In order to ensure that legal specifications for emissions are complied with and that the vehicle is not consuming fuel unnecessarily, air and fuel must be fed through the engine in a precisely defined ratio. This takes place by means of an air-mass meter or air flow sensor which detects the actual air-mass flow and transmits the measured values to the regulating and control systems of the engine.
When, as a result of the energy crisis, the reduction of fuel consumption became an important development goal in 1972-73, Bosch introduced air-volume measurement with the mechanical K-Jetronic gasoline injection and the electronically controlled L-Jetronic gasoline injection. As the inventor, Bosch is still a pioneer in the field of technical development for air-volume and air-mass metering.
